SINGAPORE: A bigger competition arena coupled with strong winds made for exciting racing at this year’s Singapore Straits Regatta (SSR).

The Zenith Sailing Team emerged victorious at the SB20 Asia Pacific Championship despite a strong challenge in the later stages.

Zenith’s skipper Xu Yuan Zhen said: “After the first day, we knew that we were in very good position to take the title and we performed very well on the second day as well and today, we had to execute our strategy of just keeping the second guy behind us which we managed to do.”

BlueNote was the overall champion among the three classes that competed in the SSR.

On Saturday, excellent weather greeted the sailors on the final day of competition off East Coast.

The race saw 17 SB20-class boats competing.

Being smaller and lighter, the craft provided for some fast and furious sailing.

The 33rd Singapore Open Windsurfing Championship takes place next week.

120 of the best sailors in the region will be competing. As for the Singapore windsurfers, it is equally important, as it is the qualifiers for this year’s Youth Olympics.
