Police briefs: Fishing boat sinks at its mooring

A 42-foot fishing boat sank at its moorings in the outer harbor of Monterey Marina late Wednesday.

The vessel was reported sinking at 6 p.m. by the harbormaster, who was making his rounds at the harbor, the Coast Guard reported.

Coastguardmen and firefighters responded and deployed booms to catch fuel leaking from the boat. No one was aboard the boat, firefighters said.

Motor home catches fire on Highway 101

A motor home caught fire in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 at Jolon Bradley Road near Bradley late Wednesday.

Firefighters from the state Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and South Monterey County Fire District responded at 7:30 p.m. and arrived to find the vehicle on fire, firefighters said. There were no injuries. The cause is believed to be a malfunctioning refrigeration unit, firefighters said.
