New Jersey Boat Sale and Expo cruises into Edison

Next week is all about the boats.

The 2016 edition of the New Jersey Boat Sale Expo will kick off next Thursday at the N.J. Convention and Expo Center and will feature more than 70 boat brands coupled with fishing seminars on each day of the four-day event.

“If you have never been to one, we guarantee that you will be pleasantly surprised at everything this boat show offers,” said Melissa Danko, Executive Director of the Marine Trades Association of New Jersey, the expo’s organizer.

This is the fifth year the MTA/NJ has held the expo and what sets this one apart from others is the reduced sales tax on boat purchases now offered in New Jersey.

Gov. Christie slashed sales taxes on boat purchases in half last December from 7 percent to 3.5 percent. That means a savings of $350 for a consumer who buys a $10,000 boat; a consumer who buys a $1 million yacht will save $50,000.

“There truly has never been a better time to buy your new boat,” said Danko. “And what better place is there to do that than at the boat show? The show is affordable, convenient and packed with incredible opportunities to make all of your summer dreams a reality.”

The boats that will be on display will represent a large fleet of fishing boats, family cruisers, express boats, pontoon boats, bow riders, deck boats, and personal watercrafts, Danko said. Potential boat buyers will be able to board and compare models conveniently under one roof.

The Expo will also include a Boater’s Marketplace filled with marine equipment and accessories, fishing tackle and supplies, electronics, insurance and banking services, and marina facilities.

The Recreational Fishing Alliance will host a series of 14 fishing seminars throughout the four-day boat show. On Sunday the RFA will draw the year-long raffle of the new Contender and Yamaha boat and motor package live from the show.

For children, the popular Kids Cove with its Fish N’ Sails theme will keep the little skippers busy with face painting, build-a-boat and make a fishing lure activities courtesy of the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium.

The show is presented by Interlux Yacht Finishes and Travelers Ocean Marine Insurance.
