The Central Texas Boat Show will offer area residents fishing seminars, tournaments and boats for sale at the Bell County Expo Center, starting today.

“It is an opportunity for consumers that are interested in the outdoors to learn about boating and fishing,” said Rick Smith, Central Texas Marine Dealer Association president and owner of Marine Outlet in Temple.

A collection of boat dealers will be the main attraction, and allow people to browse competitors in one central location without having to drive around the state, Smith said.

“Boats at the show include small personal watercraft, bass boats, ski boats and cruisers to roomy party craft large enough for family and friends,” stated a news release.

“The consumer can go from one dealer to the other while comparing the boats,” Smith said. “There will be special boat sales offered during the show.”

For boat sellers, the show has an impact on sales throughout the summer season, Smith said. Having a lot of people review products now can generate traffic to stores after they leave the show and decide they may want to purchase.

Fishing seminars during the show will provide information from experts who have spent countless hours on the water learning to catch fish, stated the release.

The seminar’s cost is included in the show’s entry fee.

Bob Maindelle with the local Holding the Line Guide Service, which instructs Central Texas youth on Belton and Stillhouse Hollow lakes, will speak about finding and effectively fishing for hybrid stripers and white bass.

Tommy Tidwell, a Crappie expert who fishes on Lake Granger, will demonstrate the ins and outs of catching crappie or white perch, the release stated.

A Tuffman Championship weigh-in will take place at the Expo Center. The competition will let anglers take to Belton and Stillhouse Hollow lakes to show off their fishing skills before coming back to the center for a weigh-in.

This year, the show also added more children’s events.

“(The show) is a one-stop shop for consumers to learn about the sport, and meet someone in the profession,” Smith said.
