The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reports one person died today in a boating accident near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge and U.S. 41/South Tamiami Trail in Manatee County.

The FWC says two commercial anglers were fishing for mullet, when their 18 foot, homemade, commercial registered fishing vessel hit a sandbar. Anthony George Loveridge, 42, of Zephyrhills, was ejected from the craft during the collision.

FWC Officer George Wells said an initial investigation showed Loveridge fell from the front of the boat and was run over by the boat’s propeller. Wells said the momentum of the boat during the collision caused Loveridge to be thrown from the boat. The other boater was not injured and his name is not being released at this time, Wells said.

The FWC reports the commercial fishing boat had the propeller in the front of the boat to keep from getting the propeller stuck in nets.

The accident happened near Bishop Harbor boat ramp, off Bishop Harbor Road, in Manatee County around 10:30 a.m. Wells said that is the ramp Loveridge and the other boater used to launch their boat.

Some additional information is reported at the Ledger’s partner, Bay New 9.
