Five Chinese boats seized by South Korea

MOKPO, South Korea, Nov. 26 (UPI) — South Korea seized five Chinese boats that were allegedly fishing illegally near the island of Gageo.

Maritime police from the port city of Mokpo seized the boats Friday evening, Yonhap News Agency reported.

The boats were using fishing nets with mesh that was smaller than the size permitted and had caught 4.3 tons of fish in South Korean waters, police officials said.

Police at the scene are also trying to determine whether the boats were also involved in other illegal activities.

Chinese fishing boats are frequently caught in South Korean waters, Yonhap reported. Sometimes violent clashes with South Korean maritime police occur.
