Finally, fishing boat operators get sales tax subsidy on HSD oil

While Visakhapatnam district has the maximum pending dues of around Rs 4.06 crore, it is followed by Rs 2.53 crore from East Godavari and Rs 2.01 crore from Guntur district.

The department of fisheries is implementing the scheme of sales tax exemption on HSD oil in a transparent manner through direct benefit transfer by crediting the subsidy amount online, said a GO released by the state government.

According to the GO, some of the dues were pending from 2011-12 fiscal.

However, in Visakhapatnam district, the dues are to the tune of Rs 2.10 crore and Rs 1.96 crore pending from 2013-14 and 2014-15 fiscal respectively.

Meanwhile, a fisheries department official in Vizag said, “The bills related to Vizag were presented to the treasury department on Thursday night. We will be transferring the amount directly into the accounts of the beneficiaries. We have about 370 eligible boats in our district and they will benefit by the reimbursement,” he said.

The release of funds having come at the end of the financial year, fishermen representatives heaved a sigh of relief. Speaking to TOI, Andhra Pradesh Mechanised Fishing Boats Operators Association, president PC Rao, AP Mechanised PC Appa Rao, said, “Thanks to the efforts by our local MLA Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar and fisheries department, we will be able to receive the funds from the state government. We also request the state government to clear whatever balance dues are remaining at the beginning of the next fiscal, so that it will benefit the fishermen.”

Visakha Dolphin Boat Owners Association Ch Satyanaryana Murthy said, “We have received information that the dues on reimbursement of sales tax on HD oil. But there are some bills which have been pending before the bifurcation of the state. That too should be released by the state government in the next fiscal.”
