The Treasure Coast Casters fishing club for junior anglers has rescheduled its monthly tournament to take place Saturday out of Jaycee Park in Fort Pierce.

The club is open to junior anglers in Treasure Coast middle schools or high schools and has no membership fee. Casters must maintain a 2.0 grade point average, but fishing is free.

Volunteers take anglers aboard boats to fish at no charge. Volunteers always are needed. Call Cammie Ward at 772-201-5773 for more information.

The next free from shore fishing tournament for junior Casters, kids ages 5 to 11, will take place Jan. 7 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Harbour Pointe Park in Fort Pierce. Call 772-201-5773 for information.

The Fort Pierce Yacht Club’s third annual sailboat regatta took place Saturday and Sunday.

High winds and high seas offshore forced the racing to take place in the Indian River Lagoon. The races were open to all community sailboaters in either racing or cruising classes. Ten area boats from the Fort Pierce Yacht Club and the St. Lucie Sailing Club attended.

First place went to Geoff Beiser of the FPYC, sailing Moonfleet, a 32-foot custom steel boat. John Bolduc of St. Lucie Sailing Club took home second place.

The FPYC winter series will kick off Jan. 29. There will be a skipper’s meeting at the Fort Pierce Yacht Club at 700 Indian River Drive at 8 p.m. Jan. 27. For more information, visit or call race captain Diane Korbey at 772-678-1623.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reminds inshore fishermen that snook season will close Dec. 15. Anglers may keep one per person per day within the 28-inch minimum and 32-inch maximum length for harvest through Dec. 14.

Snook still may be caught for catch and release. The season for the Atlantic Coast will reopen Feb. 1, 2012.

As a reminder, spotted seatrout season remains closed until Jan. 1.
