More people flocked to the Lake Havasu Boat Show this year than any of the previous 21 years, the events producer said Friday.

The three-day event, which concluded Sunday, drew 7,249 in paid attendance. With free admission for children, exhibitors and other select special guests more than 9,000 were at the show, said Bob Brown, event producer.

Last year, more than 6,300 attended the show during hot weather conditions, but this year was more moderate and comfortable, Brown said. “Weather turned out to be great Chamber of Commerce Havasu (conditions).”

“The industry itself is coming back a little bit,” Brown said. More boats were sold this year than previous years, he said, with pontoon boats leading the way.

Local boat companies, Advantage Boats and Conquest Boats, seemed to do well, Brown said.

Advantage sold at least two boats, and Conquest ended up giving a number of demonstrations immediately following the show on Monday, Brown said. The demos a lot of times end up leading to purchases, he said.

While boat sales are beginning to come back, they aren’t near what they were in 2005 and 2006, Brown said.

But last weekend’s Boat Show had more than boats, drawing visitors to a chili cook off on Saturday, a salsa competition on Sunday and the Legends by the Lake car show throughout the weekend as well.

“People seemed to enjoy (the chili cook off and salsa competition),” Brown said. Both were first-time events that raised funds for Lake Havasu High School Athletic Booster Club, and Brown said he planned on both activities would be back next year.

“The car show is always a popular event,” Brown said.

Water ski races also drew a lot of spectators watching from Windsor Beach, Brown said.

Beer garden and food vendor Off the Grill had success as well, Brown said. The food sold well enough that Off the Grill needed to dip into its reserve supply on Saturday, he added.
