As boating rebounds, Pompano marina adds boat lines

In a sign of the rebound in the boating industry, Boathouse Marine Center of Pompano Beach added two brands of sportfishing boats to its sales lineup.

Boathouse Marine Center now serves as exclusive dealer in Broward County for Southport Boats and the southernmost U.S. dealer for Bluewater.

Southport Boats, based in Maine, and Bluewater, based in Florida’s Fort Pierce, both make center-consoles and other models. Prices range from about $45,000 for an 18-foot Bluewater flats boat to about $300,000 for a 33-foot center-console Southport, said the center’s general manager Brian Smith.

Founded in 1986 as Hideaway Marina and under new ownership since 2013, Boathouse Marine Center offers a marina providing 182 dry and wet slips, among other services.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association expects boat sales to rise 5 percent this year, after gains of at least 5 percent last year. Boating is rebounding from a downturn during the Great Recession., 305-810-5009, @dhemlock on Twitter
