Buford, GA March 23, 2015 Carefree Boat Sales will hold its Grand Opening March 27-29, 2015. The new boat dealership is unique in that all boats will be displayed in the water at Aquamarina Lazy Days marina in Buford.

David Rothwell, owner of the new dealership, says, Customers like to view the boats in the water where they are actually used, rather than on a trailer or in a showroom. Having the boats in the water also facilitates test drives, and test drives are what really differentiate our boats from other brands. The dealership will be representing Formula, Ski Supreme, Centurion and Sylvan pontoons.

Rothwell said it has been over eight years since there has been a Formula dealership in the Atlanta area. There is increasing demand for larger, premium boats in the 24-45 range. Formula is at the pinnacle of that niche, as the manufacturer most boaters aspire to own.

Also catering to the higher end pontoon market, Carefree Boat Sales will be stocking up to 15 Sylvan triple tube performance pontoon boats at a time with 250 horsepower Yamaha and Honda outboards. Rothwell added, There is a strong demand for triple tube performance pontoon boats because their higher speeds, better handling and stability make them much more versatile than traditional two tube pontoons.

We also find that customers who buy a 150 horsepower wish they had more power shortly after purchase. It doesnt cost much more to upgrade from a 200 to a 250 horsepower, and thats why we find the 250 horsepower to be the most popular engine and the best value.

For the wake sports enthusiasts, Carefree Boat Sales has partnered with one of the largest wake sports boat dealership, Transition Watersports. Representing Ski Supreme and Centurion boats, Transition Watersports is a leader on the wake surf industry.

Also partnered with Carefree Boat Sales is the Carefree Boat Club with locations on Lanier, Allatoona and Hartwell. As a result of the partnership they are able to offer a unique service. Customers who order a boat receive free use of the club boats until their boat arrives. They can also use club boats during any periods their boat is in for service. Additionally customers get on-the-water training and support.

Carefree Boat Sales is located at Aquamarina Lazy Days, 6700 Lanier Islands Parkway in Buford. For more information on Carefree Boat Sales, 678-725-3749, or visit

Analyst expects strong 2Q boat sales

Marine wholesale and retail lending trends are strong with the selling season starting earlier than in the previous two years.

That’s according to an analyst at Wells Fargo, who recently met with unnamed lenders during a Midwest power-sports tour lender meeting.

The marine market outlook increased to 14 percent dollar growth on an increase of 5 to 6 percent in unit sales, senior analyst Timothy Conder said in a report recapping his tour.

That compares with 9 percent dollar growth on a 5 to 6 percent unit increase at the Miami boat shows.

Conder expects to see strong year-over-year growth in the second quarter, again led by aluminum pontoon and saltwater fishing boats, and with more modest growth from aluminum fishing boats and runabouts. The ski and wake segment should see low double-digit growth with negligible aged inventory, he wrote.

He projected that the boat mix will become “richer across each segment, driven by manufacturer innovation, strong option uptake and larger boat momentum.”

Conder also met with executives at Brunswick Corp., saying management’s tone remains upbeat, with solid U.S. marine demand continuing through April and May.

“Boston Whaler is running at record margins, with Lund margins just below,” Conder wrote. “Sea Ray remains margin-dilutive, but the goal is to reach profitability exiting 2015. Excluding Sea Ray, boat margins are mid-single digits.”

Rising average unit prices are driving boat segment growth in the first half of this year and volumes should drive the second half of the year, he said.

“Management remains indifferent to the consumer shift away from [the] smaller cruiser segment into aluminum [and] fiberglass outboards, given comparable margins with Mercury engines attached,” he said.

Houston Summer Boat Show opens

The 28th Annual Houston Summer Boat Show opens today at NRG Center with many not only watching to see how boat sales at the show will fare but also monitoring the sky in hopes that there will be less rainfall.

While boat sales in early spring have been strong, the recent flooding has caused concern among those in the local boating industry who fear that more flooding could slow down a healthy start to the season.

Houston Boat Show President Ken Lovell says, “If there is a bright side to the flooding, it’s that area lakes are now totally full, and we don’t have to worry about drought conditions as we have in recent years. At the same time, it’s important to note that boaters have so many choices in the Houston area. There are lakes within an hour of downtown; there are also bayous, rivers, the bay and the gulf. This is truly a recreational boater’s paradise.”

The Houston Summer Boat Show features the latest in nearly every type of recreational vessel—from pontoon and fishing boats to ski/wakeboarding boats and kayaks. More than 100 exhibits offer fishing gear, water sports accessories, electronics for boating, patio furniture, vacation getaways, clothing and jewelry.

Back by popular demand – the Bass Tub, an 18-wheeler-sized fish tank filled with live bass, which will be the site for fishing demonstrations. For children, there will be the always-popular Fish-O-Rama, a boat show tradition and ultra-fun way to catch a fish, and Bubble Runners, a giant human hamster ball that glides, skips and spins across the water. In addition, the world champion Miss GEICO racing team will make their inaugural appearance at the Houston Summer Boat Show, and offshore racing fans and boat enthusiasts from around the world can see the “world’s fastest catamaran race boat” measuring 48’ and weighing more than 12,000 pounds.

Show hours for the 2015 Houston Summer Boat Show are:

Today – Friday, June 3 – 5, 1:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Saturday, June 6, 10:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.
